About Alyson

Alyson Smith Neuro Physiotherapist

Alyson is a highly experienced rehabilitation physiotherapist who provides quality home/domiciliary neuro physiotherapy in the Billericay, Basildon, Brentwood and Chelmsford areas. Further distances may be accepted, depending on case-load.

She is passionate about helping others to reach their full potential.

Treatment focuses on building confidence and educating people on how to make the changes to improve the way they move.

Always aiming to build freedom of movement to improve function and quality of life.

Having worked in the NHS, Voluntary and Private sectors,  she has over 30 years of experience in the rehabilitation of people with neurological disorders or  mobility difficulties.

She also provides education for a range of health professionals. Her courses are innovative, engaging, and help others find positive, lasting change in their practises.

Alyson undertakes regular training to keep up to date with recent research and practices, and uses a wide range of techniques to offer individualised treatment programmes.

Alyson also has completed training for counsellors and coaches. This enables her to build better rapport, good communication skills and truly tailor treatment to individual’s needs.

Her range of experience is varied, from working with young adults to senior citizens.

Covering a wide range of conditions, from newly acquired (or diagnosed) to long standing conditions and end of life care.

Alyson also works with case managers in their formation of  specialised teams for the provision of effective rehabilitation in complex needs cases.

Oscar is my sometimes assistant. He joins me on sessions where he will add a positive skew for the person. He has helped people to be more animated, gain confidence in picking a ball up from the floor, and practise extending to throw a ball, which he happily returned again…and again.

Receiving neuro physiotherapy treatment in your own home can be a real positive.

Often people feel more comfortable there. You learn to implement any gains immediately, becoming used to carrying out new things in your own environment.

Wherever possible, during the assessment, you will be given simple exercises and tasks which you can begin using straight away to build confidence, and knowledge, of how you can become more connected to your body to gain better balance or control.

Alyson believes that treatment is best done as a partnership, and will explain the “what” and “how” of recovery… what is likely to work best… and how that can be best implemented into everyday life.

Whenever possible, activities can be taken from the home to outside settings with exploration of expanding your own boundaries, at your own pace, and following your own goals.

We may incorporate your own hobbies/pastimes into your treatment programme and she is happy to visit other places with you such as your gym, work place etc if necessary.

She visits nursing/care homes and often works with patients, their family members and/or carers, to build an ongoing exercise/activity programme.

Visiting up to an area of a 15 mile radius of Billericay, she currently visits Basildon, Wickford, Chelmsford, and Brentwood. Depending on availability

A great help to my 88 year old mother. My mother’s mobility was severely impacted by rheumatoid arthritis and a fear of falling as an extremely nervous person.

Alyson has been treating my husband following his discharge from hospital after a severe stroke post a heart bypass.
I really cannot speak too highly of her, in short she has provided motivation, knowledge and expertese of such exceptional quality, I doubt there is a better neuro physiotherapist anywhere else the country.
She has my and my family’s full confidence and I would thoroughly recommend her services. She is quite remarkable.
